“Ah… You’ve always been fond of ‘the drink’.” At one time or another, Dad Egbert might’ve taken out his wallet and pulled out a juicebox for her. He had since learned better.

“Well, remembering back to the time I spent here… You could very well find some firewhiskey in the…

“I am always ready to escort a lady.” You smile. “Right this way.”

Your eyes shine with complete and utter adoration.

“How are your studies? Have a girlfriend yet? Is she cute? Is your wand still doing that weird thing? Are you still having that recurring nightmare?” You lower your voice to a whisper. “I brought your old night light….

“Ah, yes. Taking the first years across the lake was quite the experience. They’re very short.”

You reach into your pocket and grab your enchanted wallet. It’s filled with everything you could possibly need, thanks to a very sophisticated undetectable extension charm. Despite the charm and possibly due to your compulsive need to overpack, the wallet is very heavy. Not to you, personally, of course. But you have been told by several work friends (before snatching it back to conceal magic from a muggle) that it is very heavy.

You flip through it for a moment, as if you were looking for a credit card in an average wallet, and not shoving cans of shaving cream and pipe tobacco out of your way. Finally, you pull out a box of recipe cards.

“Rose is such a sweet girl. I’ve heard she’s inherited her Mother’s talent. And her looks.” You wink at him, passing him a card detailing the ingredients and directions for baking your delicious red velvet cake, on the front and one of your loving and supporting notes on the back. “I’d be happy to teach both of you to make it one day.”

Ah… the ever-beautiful Ms. Lalonde. Or was it Mrs. now? It was of course, possible that she had married since you last saw her. You bow you head attempting to hide a hardly noticeable but extremely un-masculine blush.

“Well, remembering back to the time I spent here… You could very well find some firewhiskey in the Caretaker’s office. As long as you took care not to get caught.” You smile to yourself, reminiscing on pranks of old. “They may have aged nicely.”

Suddenly your fatherly impulses kick in. Could it be? Is it— YES, IT IS. Your precious little boy. Well, not so little now. He’s only… six inches shorter than you now, you surmise? He’s growing up into such a fine little man! You stare at him lovingly, willing him to stop his capricious activities and look over to you.

“Son.” You nod respectfully in acknowledgement of his presence, as only you, his Father can.

==>Admire the Castle From Afar

It’d been years since Dad Egbert had laid eyes on the school or its grounds. It was rather majestic, and a rather large change from his plain American houses and office buildings he had become accustomed to over the years. And yet, it still held that same distinct character that he always admired. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. He just hoped he wouldn’t be expected to do too much of that confounded “magic.” A real man used his fists and his rapier wits to solve all his problems.

A calm and all encompassing fear came over the man. He had all but forbidden magic in his sweet, simple, suburban domain. What if the shadow of wizardly laziness had overcome his poor, innocent child, John? How would he ever grow to become a true man? He felt a tear creep into his eyes, and he forced it away.

He had come just in time. And as soon as he finished watering the lawn, he would shape these kids into responsible young adults with a firm but gentle hand.
